Job Description:
Candidates are invited to apply for full-time, 10-month positions responsible for effectively supporting the goal of the Keystone College Advising Corps to increase college matriculation rates among rural high school students. These positions are two year appointments. Advisers will partner with guidance counselors and administrators at his/her assigned rural high school(s) to counsel and provide information to students regarding postsecondary education. Advisers will also provide students and their families with relevant information regarding the benefits of a postsecondary education, preparing for college / university attendance, and the admission and financial aid processes. Advisers will serve schools in Fulton, Huntingdon, Juniata, Franklin and Mifflin counties. Primary responsibilities include: *Working collaboratively with the Program Director and other Advisers to help implement the KCAC program based on the objectives of partner institutions and requirements of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation grant; *Working with guidance counselors in the assigned high school(s) to identify students who show the potential for success in postsecondary education; *Interacting on a daily basis with high school students in the assigned school(s) to provide relevant information about the higher education experience and the college/university admission process; *Initiating contacts with grades 7-10 students and their families to help them prepare for postsecondary education. Provide information regarding high school course selection, test taking skills, and basic financial planning to help prepare for future education; *Hosting regular workshops for the families of students to discuss topics such as types of financial aid, applying for financial aid, the importance of a postsecondary education, and opportunities available.
Requirements:
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's degree within the past five years from Franklin & Marshall College, Dickinson College, Millersville University, Shippensburg University, or Gettysburg College and must be able to articulate their deep appreciation of the value of a postsecondary education. Guides are expected to live and work in his/her assigned county, regularly visit his/her assigned school(s) and work effectively with those from diverse backgrounds. Previous experience demonstrating strong leadership abilities, the ability to influence others in a positive manner while achieving goals, and effectively communicating ideas and generating support for ideas is a must. Because this position requires driving for College business, the successful candidate must possess a U.S. or Canadian driver's license which has been valid for at least two years, have a driving record that is free from excessive motor vehicle violations within the last three years, and have had no convictions in the last 24 months for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
